River Rafting is the most popular adventure sports in Rishikesh. Any Visit to Rishikesh is incomplete without River Rafting. It is suitable for any one in any age group. People having Heart problems, Asthma & Pregnant Ladies should avoid River Rafting. Once you have had the fun ride of the holy city, and want to experience something exciting, then river rafting is for you. The sand beaches are soothing and can cool you down.

There are five major rafting stretches in Rishikesh

  1. Brahmapuri to Rishikesh
  2. Shivpuri to Rishikesh,
  3. Marine Drive to Rishikesh
  4. Byas to Rishikesh and
  5. Kaudiyala to Rishikesh.

The rafting stretches in distance and difficulty level. If you are new to rafting it is suggested to try either Brahmapuri or Shivpuri. On my first trip to Rishikesh I tried Shivpuri stretch.

Rishikesh River Rafting

There are many adventure tour operators from Ram Jhula to Laxman Jhoola who provide rafting service. They will provide the basics instruments like life jacket, helmet,  guide e.t.c and will take you to the rafting point of your interest. The charges can vary according to the rafting stretch, starting as low as Rs 500 and can reach up to Rs 5000. You can also book online (not suggested) if you are coming in the months of May and June is the most pleasant time to go for Rafting. Let us see each river rafting stretch in bit detail.

River Rafting Stretch: Brahmpuri to Rishikesh

Distance: 12 Km

Level: Easy Grade 2

Time Required: 1-1.5 hours

Brahmpuri Stretch River Rafting Rishikesh

The first rafting point is Brahmpuri which is at a distance of 12 km from Rishikesh. It is suitable for people aged 40+ with wife and children. The rapids in this path fall in Grade 2 which is considered as the easiest of all having small waves and without obstacles. It will take you around 1 – 1.5 hours to come back to Rishikesh via the Ganges.

River Rafting Stretch: Shivpuri to Rishikesh

Distance: 16 Km

Level: Easy Grade 2/3

Time Required: 2-2.5 hours

Shivpuri Stretch River Rafting Rishikesh

If you tend to take a more exciting course, you can try the Shivpuri Rafting point which is at a distance of 16 km from Rishikesh. This is suitable for first timers in their youth. You will thoroughly enjoy the stretch.The ones who have time and have had a bit of experience with River Rafting can go for Shivpuri. It has Grade 2/3 rapids. It can take you 3 – 3.5 hours to go through this course.

River Rafting Stretch: Marine Drive to Rishikesh

Distance: 24 Km

Level: Easy Grade 2/3

Time Required: 3 – 3.5 hours

Marine Drive to Rishikesh River Rafting

You can increase the degree of difficulty a notch by proceeding to Marine Drive rafting point which is 24 km from Rishikesh. Marine Drive hosts rapids like Return to Centre, Three Blind Mice (Grade 3), and Cash Flow.

River Rafting Stretch: Byasi to Rishikesh

Distance: 28 Km

Level: Easy Grade 2/3/4

Time Required: 5-6 hours

River Rafting Ganga Rishikesh

For the ones who have had a quite a bit of exposure to Rafting can start from Byasi. Byasi is also a beautiful camping site and is at a distance of 28 km from Rishikesh. It has a decent degree of difficulty and offers a variety of rapids ranging from Hilton and Terminator (Grade 1) to Golf Course (Grade 4) and the Roller Coaster (Grade 4). It can take you 4 to 5 hours to raft through it.

River Rafting Stretch: Kaudiyala to Rishikesh

Distance: 36 Km

Level: Easy Grade 2/3/4

Time Required: 6-7 hours

Longest rafting Stretch in Rishikesh

The farthest Rafting point is Kaudiyala which is around 36 km from Rishikesh. It is the maximum degree rafting point in Rishikesh with rapids of Grade 4+ like Daniel’s Dip, Roller Coaster, etc. You can have a light snack and prepare yourself for the next 6 to 7 hours of thrill.

As there are many rafting companies in Rishikesh, it won’t be troublesome to book a raft and fulfill your wish to experience the fury of water with its tender waves, filling you with excitement and refreshment.
